The convertible offers its distinctive appeal of open-top driving pleasure with its classic textile soft top which can be opened or closed fully automatically in 15 seconds at the touch of a button.​ The standard BMW “Iconic Glow” kidney grille also adds a particularly expressive touch to the exterior.​​

The new BMW 8 Series Convertible now includes the BMW Live Cockpit Professional as standard equipment. Its fully digital display network consists of a 12.3-inch instrument cluster behind the steering wheel and a Control Display, which has been enlarged from 10.25 to 12.3 inches. The generously sized on-board monitor offers a touch function, as well as features such as the online-based navigation system BMW Maps, the BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant, the BMW Head-Up Display, wireless smartphone integration via wireless LAN, and a multimedia system.​​
