Adam Vickers, Service Manager at Sandal BMW, is lacing up his running shoes for a cause that hits close to home. This year, he’s taking on the Great North Run to raise funds and awareness for OCD Action - inspired by his daughter's journey and the strength she’s shown every step of the way.
For Adam, this year’s Great North Run is about much more than crossing the finish line. It’s a way to give back, raise awareness, and stand in solidarity with the many families affected by Obsessive Compulsive Disorder. His goal is to shine a light on the reality of OCD and support the vital work of OCD Action.
“Family life changed forever when our daughter started showing signs of OCD,” Adam shares. “In the early days, without a diagnosis, we were lost - watching her struggle in some very dark places without knowing how to help.” After what felt like a long and uncertain journey, the right diagnosis marked a turning point. “With the right support, she has gone from strength to strength, showing more courage than we could ever have imagined.”
Adam’s decision to run the Great North Run this year is his way of giving back - not only to support his daughter but to raise awareness of what OCD really is and the impact it can have on individuals and families. “Every step I take is for her and for every family walking this path,” he says. “Please support if you can - together we can make a difference.”
OCD Action is the UK’s leading charity for people affected by Obsessive Compulsive Disorder. Their mission is to create a society where OCD is understood, diagnosed quickly, and treated effectively. They provide vital information, advocacy, and support so that no one feels alone or ashamed to ask for help.
